EAI COMMENDS MINISTRY OF EDUCATION FOR RESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP AND HANDLING OF TEACHER UNION STRIKES – William Boadi

The Educate Africa Institute (EAI) has commended the Ministry of Education, under the leadership of Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, and his Deputy Minister, Hon. Dr. Clement Apaak, for the manner in which they have handled the strike actions declared by teacher unions in the country.

EAI believes that the Ministry’s approach demonstrates a refreshing commitment to leadership, respect for organised labour, constructive engagement, and the responsible management of industrial relations within Ghana’s education sector.

For the first time in recent memory, we are witnessing a Ministry of Education that appears willing to demonstrate visible leadership, engage stakeholders with respect, and approach labour disputes with a sense of responsibility and urgency. This is a positive development that deserves recognition and encouragement.

We particularly commend Hon. Haruna Iddrisu and Hon. Dr. Clement Apaak for their leadership, engagement, and efforts to address concerns raised by teacher unions. Their approach reinforces the principle that disagreements between government and organised labour are best resolved through dialogue, mutual respect, negotiation, and a shared commitment to the national interest.

EAI acknowledges that industrial actions in the education sector can disrupt teaching and learning, affect students’ academic progress, and place additional pressure on parents and school administrators. We therefore consider responsible leadership and constructive dialogue essential to maintaining industrial harmony and protecting the future of Ghanaian learners.

While commending the Ministry for its handling of the situation, we encourage it to sustain this spirit of engagement and ensure that concerns raised by teacher unions receive timely, practical, and lasting solutions. We also urge all teacher unions to continue pursuing their legitimate concerns through constructive dialogue while prioritising the welfare and educational interests of learners.

Good leadership deserves recognition, and responsible governance must be encouraged regardless of political considerations. EAI believes that acknowledging positive developments in public administration strengthens accountability, builds public confidence, and encourages continuous improvement.

We call on the Ministry of Education to maintain this approach and work closely with teacher unions, the Ghana Education Service, school administrators, and other stakeholders to build a more stable, respectful, and productive educational environment.

The Educate Africa Institute remains committed to advocating for quality education, social justice, effective education governance, and policies that advance the interests of teachers, learners, and the nation as a whole.
