EAI Condemns BECE Exam Malpractices by Invigilators, Urges WAEC to Sanction Officials and Cease Cancellation of Candidates’ Results – Anthony Cobbinah

The Educate Africa Institute (EAI) has observed with great concern that more than nine (9) invigilators were caught engaging in examination malpractice on the very first day of the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) across the country.

This revelation is deeply troubling and reflects a breach of trust by individuals mandated to ensure fairness and credibility in our national assessments. Such misconduct by invigilators undermines the integrity of Ghana’s educational system and jeopardizes the future of innocent candidates.

In response to this unacceptable development, Mr. Anthony Cobbinah, Director of Quality Assurance and Advocacy at EAI, is calling on the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to take swift and decisive disciplinary action against all invigilators and officials found culpable.

“It is unjust to penalize students for malpractice orchestrated or aided by adults who are supposed to protect the integrity of the process. WAEC must shift its focus to sanctioning the real offenders invigilators and supervisors not the candidates,” said Mr. Cobbinah.

EAI further urges WAEC to:

a. Thoroughly investigate and publish reports on all invigilators involved in malpractice.

b. Halt the practice of cancelling or withholding candidates’ results due to malpractice instigated by invigilators.

c. Strengthen monitoring and accountability measures for examination personnel at all levels.

EAI believes that punishing students for malpractice they did not initiate is a grave injustice. We are committed to promoting fairness, transparency, and quality education in Ghana. The Institute will continue to monitor the situation closely and advocate for reforms that protect the rights and efforts of honest learners.

Signed.
