PRESS RELEASE
Mass Dismissal at UEW Due to Academic Decline: Give Affected Level 100 Students a Second Chance – William Boadi, EAI
The Educate Africa Institute (EAI) expresses deep concern over the alarming rate of mass failure at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), which has led to the dismissal of 38 Level 100 students. This development raises serious questions about the underlying causes of academic decline.
The University of Education, Winneba (UEW), officially withdrew 38 Level 100 students for failing to meet academic standards. The decision was announced in a statement on March 7, 2025, following an audit of the students’ academic performance during their first and second semesters.
Several factors contribute to this unfortunate outcome. Some students prioritize relationships over academics, choosing to rent and live with their partners, which affects their focus and commitment to studies. Additionally, many students possess remarkable talents and gifts but struggle academically due to the rigid educational structure, which fails to accommodate their strengths. Furthermore, peer pressure and unproductive social groupings have distracted many from their primary purpose of learning.
In light of this, the Educate Africa Institute (EAI) commends the university management for taking decisive action to uphold academic standards. However, EAI also pleads for reconsideration of the affected students, advocating for a second chance. EAI urges parents to collaborate with the university to closely monitor their wards, ensuring they stay focused on their education and fulfill their academic goals. Safeguarding students’ academic futures is a shared responsibility requiring institutional and parental commitment.
Education remains a pillar of national development. While discipline and academic excellence must be upheld, a balanced approach that nurtures students’ potential should also be considered.
